Nice and small, plain old black color. I’m not sure how durable it would be if you went and dropped it but it seems to be working very well for the sims 4 and other games, is a little slow to load the games but other reviews warned of that so I expected it. Would purchase again if I need one but hopefully not any time soon!

A lot of storage for not a lot of money. I shoot a lot of photos and storage is an issue. Immediately transferred 2T to this drive. No issues. Only downside is it’s a bit slow but for the money it’s not much of a downside. I’ll buy again!

I am reviewing the 8000 GB (8 TB) Desktop.
Okay, I knew going in that this was a “shingled” drive. But, I needed it for archival storage, so I figured it would work and I was right. I have a home network and a home server. I nedded to expand the capacity of that server. This is my experience.
The drive arrived on schedule. It was easy to unbox and I liked the look, feel and solid weight of it. 30 minutes after unboxing it was connected to my server.
It took only few minutes to reformat it for linux. (Who would want to run a server on anything else?) After formatting I got down to work.
Let me say here that it runs only slightly warm, never hot. It does make a sound, but is quiet and doesn’t bother me at all. It comes with it’s own power so my computer doesn’t have to supply it.
Anyway, the first thing that had to happen was moving about 4 TB of files onto it. I started the copy and went away. It’s a shingled drive so I knew it would take a while. And it did 🙂
The next day I set up the Samba share, let Jellyfin scan it, and I was in business.
It has now been running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for tw-months. It performs beautifully. No problems and no issues. It is a perfect archival drive. It’s performance is way better than needed for it’s purpose. I really like this drive and it is approaching 6.5 TB, so I will need to get another one soon. Can’t think of any reason not to get another one of these. So far I am VERY satisfied with this purchase.
One thing I wanted to know going it was how long it might last running 24/7. Never could get an answer. But, so far, better than good!

I use an M2 Mac mini from 2023 – 16GB RAM. I knew what I was potentially getting into when I got these drives — but urgency dictated that I -had- to get my photos, videos, and other data onto these newer, portable drives. This suited my needs at the time, averaging about 75.0 MB/s.
However — when I purchased an NVMe drive — averaging 2,800.0 MB/s for read and write — I realized just how slow these drives are.
Getting my files organized on these drive is a real chore, using Apple’s Photos app and PowerPhotos. It came to a point where — in order for me to merge libraries (using PowerPhotos) — I had resorted to copying over photo libraries to the 2TB NVMe drive — and THEN merging or splitting them, to sort photos into their respective categories.
In a world where we now deal with Terabytes of data — the 140-180 MB/s (theoretical) speed is just way too slow to work with. I haven’t even touched on video production! As for trying to open and view photo libraries on these drives — it is agonizingly slow. It takes a few seconds for thumbnails to populate — this is in contrast to viewing on a fast, NVMe drive where everything is instantaneous.
Again, these drives served a purpose when I got them — as backup drives for my photos, videos, and data. I didn’t expect to manage or manipulate the data on them… and given the tremendously slow speed and sheer amount of data to go through — I don’t expect to.
Once I have those 4TB external SSD drives — that boast about 2,000.0 MB/s speeds (just slightly slower than my NVMe drive that tops out at 2TB in capacity) — I will be using those to manage and organize my libraries. The 5TB slow, spinny-disk drives will then be used primarily as true backup disks.

The online tech support by Seagate leaves a LOT to be desired as the problem was, I could see the device in the printers, scanners and other devices on my computer, but it would not show up in File Manager where I should have been able to “drag and drop” stuff into/onto that drive. I did EVERYTHING I could think of – I tried it on my desktop, then my laptop, turned the computers on and off, unplugged the drive and nothing worked. I went to Seagate’s online support and one of their videos stated, “try another cable – sometimes cables go bad.” Uh, DUH, this portable drive has a very unique and proprietary type of cable! It’s not like one end is a regular USB plug and the other side is a USB-C plug! It’s sort of like a double USB-B or micro-USB plug, but two of them put together and one side is smaller than the other side, so, “try a different cable?” Puh-leaze! However, I requested a return of that original and asked for another of the same hard drive be sent. Got it today and IT WORKS PERFECTLY!!! Yes! I plugged it in and BOOM! There it was in File Manager. Checked the properties and it has the space I expected it to have. Then I did a drag and drop of an MP3 file just to see if there would be any problems and the file copied over to the new hard drive without issue. THIS is what I wanted and am happy to have – a great little external hard drive that works just as it should at an excellent price.
